It’s Official: Beatles: Rock Band Outsold Guitar Hero 5

While the preliminary numbers were not spot on, the results were still the same: The Beatles: Rock Band outsold Guitar Hero 5 in the month of September, according to video game industry research group NPD. The Beatles: Rock Band was the #1 sales leader in the music video game category (both unit sales and revenue) for September, the #2 overall game by revenue, and the #3 title in terms of units sold overall for September.
There’s a couple of things to remember that make this victory even sweeter.
- Guitar Hero 5 came out a week before The Beatles: Rock Band, and had the additional time to rack up more unit sales.
- Guitar Hero 5 also came out for the PS2, while The Beatles: Rock Band did not (sorry PS2 owners).
- Guitar Hero 5 offered a FREE game promotion (Guitar Hero: Van Halen), while The Beatles: Rock Band did not.
So despite what any Activision bosses may say (“Guitar Hero beat the Beatles: Rock Band because it’s fun as hell” and “Guitar Hero 5 outsells Beatles: Rock Band 4-to-1“), these numbers are official, and do not lie!
Congrats Harmonix, you earned it!
